Our Story
Our journey in protecting workers' rights
Establishment
Ethiopian Labour Rights Watch (ELRW) was established to address labour-related issues and strengthen the protection of labour rights in Ethiopia. Founded by experts with extensive experience in legal, policy and labour affairs, ELRW was registered under Proclamation No. 1113/2019 with registry number 4447.

Building Awareness
ELRW began its work by raising awareness among workers, labour unions, employers and communities about labour rights, responsibilities, workplace safety and industrial peace. We conducted training sessions and public awareness campaigns across Ethiopia.

Expanding Impact
We launched our free legal aid program, providing support to workers who lack access to justice. Our policy advocacy work gained momentum as we identified gaps in the labour framework and engaged with decision-makers to advocate for meaningful reforms.

Strategic Alliances
ELRW established key partnerships with organizations including CETU, BoLS, CECOE, CEHRO, and CSRC. We began implementing major projects with international partners including Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, CSSP II, and AFD.

Nationwide Reach
Our capacity building initiatives expanded nationwide, conducting training sessions in various regions including Hawassa, Assosa, Adama, Wolayita, and Jigjiga. We strengthened emerging Civil Society Organizations working on labour rights across Ethiopia.
