Friedrich Ebert Stiftung
Occupational Safety and Health in Construction Sector
Ethiopian Labour Rights Watch (ELRW) organized a consultative meeting on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in the construction sector with the financial support of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES). As a result of this initiative, ELRW successfully facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bureau of Labour and Skills, the Ethiopian Construction Industry Workers Federation and the Construction Contractors Association of Ethiopia.
Civil Society Support Programme Phase II
Protection of OSH for Young Workers in Hawassa Industrial Park
Ethiopian Labour Rights Watch (ELRW) had project entitled 'Better Protection of OSH of Young Workers in Hawassa Industrial Park' which funded under Civil Society Support Programme Phase II (CSSP II). The project objective was to strengthen protection for young industrial workers by enhancing the awareness, dialogue and institutional capacity on OSH. The key events were a research conducted to investigate ongoing OSH practices in Hawassa Industrial Park and a validation workshop involving stakeholders. ELRW produced a summary booklet of research findings and created posters and social media messages to inform the public. Other activities included a sensitization workshop for employers and workers to raise awareness of OSH rights and duties and a training initiative targeting government institutions to strengthen inspection and control functions. The initiative effectively raised awareness of OSH rights among young workers and facilitated better cooperation between the park management, labour authorities and employers.

Agence Française de Développement
Nationwide Capacity Building for CSOs
As part of the Civil Society Innovative Fund I (CSIF I) Project which funded by Agence Française de Développement (AFD), ELRW implemented a nationwide capacity-building initiative aimed at strengthening emerging Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working on labour rights in Ethiopia. Through a series of targeted trainings conducted in Hawassa, Assosa, Adama, Wolayita and Jigjiga, the project equipped CSOs with essential knowledge, skills and tools to effectively advocate for workers' rights and promote decent work standards. This initiative contributed to building a more vibrant and capable civil society network committed to advancing labour justice in Ethiopia. The successful collaboration of partners, trainers, and participants made this project a meaningful step toward empowering grassroots organizations to drive sustainable change in the labour sector.
Civil Rights Defenders & Ethiopian Lawyers with Disabilities Association
Advancing Rights of Persons with Disabilities
In collaboration with Ethiopian Lawyers with Disabilities Association (ELDA) ELRW had a project title 'Advancing the rights of persons with disabilities: Leveling the Playing Field by Eliminating Legislative and policy Barriers to Disability Inclusion in the Workforce' which funded by Civil Rights Defenders (CRD). In the project we published a research which focused on identifying gaps in employment legislation and drafting a national standard for reasonable accommodation for workers with disabilities. ELRW also develop and present policy briefs with key findings and recommendations to relevant committees and ministries. In addition we assist implementation of an online campaign to raise awareness and mobilize support for policy changes for benefiting persons with disabilities.

Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organization
Combating Exploitation, Child Labour, Abuse and Human Trafficking
In collaboration with CEHRO, ELRW successfully implemented the project 'Combating Exploitation, Child Labour, Abuse and Human Trafficking in Ethiopia' which funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Norway (NORAD). The project delivered sensitization workshops for business owners, recruiting agencies (brokers), and community members to enhancing their understanding of key labour laws, policies and protocols aimed at protecting workers and vulnerable groups. In addition, weekly awareness magazines were produced and disseminated to the wider public, promoting individuals' rights to decent work and access to justice. This initiative strengthened national efforts to reduce exploitation and promote fair and safe labour practices across communities.

Capacity Building Trainings for Emerging CSOs
Partners: Agence Française de Développement (AFD)

Ethiopian Labour Rights Watch (ELRW), in collaboration with Agence Française de Développement (AFD), has successfully conducted a series of Capacity Building Trainings for emerging Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) across Ethiopia. These trainings, held in Hawassa, Assosa, Adama, and Jigjiga, aimed to equip CSOs with the knowledge and tools necessary to advocate for labour rights effectively. We are committed to building a strong network of CSOs that can drive positive change in Ethiopia's labour sector. A big thank you to all our partners, trainers, and participants for making this initiative a success!




Capacity Building Training for Trade Union Representatives
Partners: CSRC with financial support from AFD
Focus: Partnership Development, Job Security Advocacy, and Strategy and Policy Making
We have successfully conducted a two-day capacity-building training in collaboration with CSRC with financial support of AFD on Partnership Development, Job Security Advocacy, and Strategy and Policy Making for trade union representatives in the banking sector. The session equipped participants with critical skills to strengthen worker representation and safeguard labor rights. Special thanks to our expert trainers Henok Teshome, Khalid Getye and Aboneh Teshome for their invaluable contributions.




Dissemination Workshop on Reasonable Accommodation
Partners: ELDA with support from ELRW and financial contribution from CRD
Date: June 17th at Sapphire Hotel
On June 17th, ELDA with the support of Ethiopian Labour Rights Watch (ELRW) and the financial contribution of Civil Rights Defenders (CRD) hosted a dissemination workshop at Sapphire Hotel for the Draft Reasonable Accommodation for Persons with Disabilities at the Workplace. A huge thank you to Dr. Yohannes Takele for preparing this vital document. We were thrilled to welcome diverse stakeholders who actively participated, offering insightful comments and perspectives. Together, we're building a more accessible and equitable work environment for all!




Validation Workshop on Research: Right to Employment of Persons with Disabilities

Date: June 27, 2025 at Sapphire Addis Hotel
The Validation Workshop on the Research 'Right to Employment of Persons with Disabilities in Ethiopia: Law and Practice' was successfully conducted on June 27, 2025 at Sapphire Addis Hotel. The workshop brought together key stakeholders from government institutions, civil society, and the disability community to discuss research findings and identify pathways for strengthening inclusive employment policies and practices in Ethiopia. This important initiative was organized by the Ethiopian Labour Rights Watch (ELRW) in collaboration with the Ethiopian Lawyers with Disabilities Association (ELDA), with financial support from CRD. We extend our sincere appreciation to Honourable Chaltu Warji, representative of the House of Peoples' Representatives Law and Justice Standing Committee, for gracing the workshop with her presence. Her participation reflects strong government support and commitment toward ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities.
